Description
The international community has evolved a system for responding to major humanitarian emergencies. This module will explain the structure and dynamics of this humanitarianÌýresponse system, describe how it functions at international, national and other levels, and the challenges it faces during crises and disasters. It will enable students to become familiar with the major issues and trends associated with modern humanitarianism and the methodologies, tools, and guidelines used when responding to crises. Examples will illustrate the principal challenges and successes in the field. The module will build knowledge of practical, theoretical and ethical approaches to humanitarian action.
The module will make a significant use of examples, scenarios and case studies to facilitate the development of critical thinking.
