Description
The dissertation project component of the course provides you with the experience of creating an original piece of work on a global health issue. The dissertation module takes place throughout the year and is self-directed with support from a supervisor. You will also receive dissertation skills sessions from the module lead and IGH library staff. At the end you are required to produce a 10,000-word dissertation that is 100% of your mark for this module.
At the end of this module, you should be able to:
- Organise and carry out a literature review.
- Deliver a presentation to clearly communicate your research topic and plan.
- Demonstrate advanced academic writing skills, including structuring a dissertation and proper referencing.
- Apply theoretical concepts to key global health issues and carry out independent critique of literature.
- Develop interpersonal skills to work with a supervisor throughout the project.
The project is open to Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê iBSc students and external students who are applying from a UK medical school.
Students are assigned a supervisor with whom they can consult regularly as they write up their project. The total time commitment for this module is 250-300 hours of self-directed study, as well as approximately 5 hours of skills sessions.
