Description
This module is for IIPP MPA students who wish to write a thesis. MPA thesis should be conceived of as a policy analysis. Policy analysis is typically done individually and focuses on a policy problem (e.g. how to lower the carbon footprint of fashion industry, or how to change financial regulations to induce more investment into the green economy) or organisational and institutional challenges in the public sector (e.g. how can public organisations create organisational culture that welcomes risk taking and experimentation, or how to provide social security for the gig economy).
Ìý
Policy analysis should be focused on a real existing policy problem or a challenge, either current or historical. However, thesis can also explore more theoretical and conceptual issues, such as an history of a key concept in public policy (e.g., outsourcing or digital transformation), and its evolution.Ìý
The thesis is based on thorough academic understanding of the problem and its context; typically the thesis also contains empirical research in the form of document analysis, interviews, or similar.
