Description

Module Content

In regular consultation with their supervisor, MRes students willÌý undertake a systematic literature review of the ethnographic area in which they plan to conduct their research; or if in biological anthropology on relevant topics related to the area they wish to focus on. The student should acquire an excellent knowledge of the contributions of the key authors and researchers working in their ethnographic area or field, and have developed a detailed understanding of the previous debates and key current issues discussed in the literature. This will include an understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of these debates and approaches to the subject matter. In biological anthropology this should also include a review of the key experimental approaches applied by researchers examining this topic.ÌýStudents will then write a 2,500-word essay based on this literature review, designed in consultation with their supervisor, to be submitted usually at the beginning of the summer term (late April).
