Description

Child health programmes are going through a challenging phase as they try to meet global targets and deal with the need for evidence-based intervention. This module will provide you with a background to child health interventions and will examine the burden of disease, mechanisms and determinants of key childhood illnesses, evidence for essential interventions and successes and challenges of key programs. It is relevant for child health professionals, programme managers and those with an interest in public health. You will be introduced to concepts and global issues in child health and disability.Ìý

After taking this module you should be able to:Ìý

  1. Identify and discuss important issues in international child health and disability.Ìý

  1. Be familiar with the history and design of child health programmes and strategies.Ìý

  1. Gain knowledge about common childhood illnesses, and strategies for their control in developing countries.Ìý

  1. Understand child development issues and models of disability.Ìý

  1. Be confident in finding, reading and assessing international health information.Ìý

  1. Have thought about your particular interests within the international health field.Ìý

Participants usually have a background in public health, through either training or work experience. The module is compulsory for students on MSc Paediatrics and Child Health: Global Child Health. It is optional for MSc/PG Dip Global Health and Development students, and open to other Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê MSc/PG Dip students, and Taster course students subject to availability.Ìý
