Description

This MA module looks at some key themes in Britain鈥檚 post-war history through the lens of decolonisation, covering the period from the beginning of the Second World War to the Falklands War. In this time of rapid political, social, cultural and economic change, the domestic or 鈥渕etropolitan鈥 world intersected with, and was profoundly shaped by, the loss of Britain鈥檚 formal imperial power. Understanding the complexity of this interconnection is the primary aim of the module. The unit is concerned with political history and decisions taken by Labour and Conservative governments during the period, but it takes a broad view of 鈥渢he political,鈥 exploring links between changes in the imperial and international spheres and domestic political, social and cultural shifts.
