This is the Dissertation module for the MA Education and International Development.
The dissertation module aims to enable students to understand the contested nature of social/educational research within the field of international development and apply their learning by way of preparation and submission of a dissertation.
The module consists of a series of elements taught online and supervision sessions to support students to conduct a small-scale study. These sessions are intended to help students to learn how to develop and implement a methodology, and to reflect on the ethics and power dynamics of education and international development research.Ìý
Students are expected to complete a short presentation of their methodology midway through the project as part of their formal assessment, and then to submit an account of their small-scale study by way of a dissertation not exceeding 12,000 words. Prior to submitting the dissertation, all students must have an ethics form approved, with a proposal attached to it of up to 2,000 words.
