Module Description
The Creative and Collaborative Enterprise Dissertation is either a scholarly document of a maximum of 10,000 words based on independent research and thought and including some analysis of data that integrates creative and collaborative enterprise perspectives in an original way, or an enterprise development project together with a scholarly document of a maximum of 1500 words reflecting on your project’s realization.
It must apply creative and collaborative enterprise methodologies (i.e., creative and collaborative theories, techniques, processes or paradigms; and/or ethnography) in some way. This may be achieved at an empirical level (by presenting source or case materials) or at a theoretical level (by exploring and synthesizing previously published sources), or in a mixed manner, showing how the two levels are related. In most cases the dissertation will report on original data collected by the student to address a particular empirical question within the scope of the degree. Such a dissertation will include a literature review on other similar work demonstrating the practical or theoretical justification for this dissertation, a description of the methodology, and appropriate analysis of the results.
The purpose of the dissertation is to provide both an exercise in and a test of the student's proficiency in creative and collaborative approaches to an enterprise issue of their choice. The topic chosen usually arises from the enterprise project that has been pursued during the course.
The CCE dissertation is likely to take one of the following forms:
- research into an aspect of the industry in which you plan to develop and how this impacts your plans.
- an analysis of two or more key players in your sector or related field and how this intersects with your idea.
- a creative product development project to progress your enterprise; or
- the creation of a fully-fledged product or service prototype.
The intended outcome, therefore, is a dissertation or project that exemplifies the techniques, methods, and theories of creative and collaborative enterprise (and, if relevant, their limitations), enabling the student to apply and develop the methods learnt to other contexts as appropriate. In doing so, dissertations are expected to be an original contribution to knowledge.
Dissertation (10,000 words); or Enterprise Development Project plus Reflective document (1500 words).
Please note the assessment titles may be subject to change.
