Description
The two compulsory modules (Disciplines of Music Education, Part I and Part II) are founded on three strands in the study of music education: philosophy, psychology and sociology. This module examines a wide range of music psychology and music social psychology research concerning how people make sense of music. It shows how their musical thinking is shaped by enculturation, maturation and experience; and how they develop specific musical knowledge, skills and understanding. It explores key features of musical development from pre-birth into adolescence and adulthood; and it also considers neurological and socio-psychological factors in development. It comprises historically-significant and cutting-edge approaches and theories in its field, also drawing on internationally-significant work in this arena by lecturers on the MA programme.
