Description

The two compulsory modules (Disciplines of Music Education, Part I and Part II) are founded on three strands in the study of music education: philosophy, psychology and sociology. This module explores the social functions and significance of music and music education, including musical production and reception practices. It looks at themes such as access to musical opportunity in relation to e.g. the curriculum, class and ethnicity. The module also explores music curricula, pedagogy, assessment and attainment, by making reference to noteworthy sociologists. It includes historically-significant and cutting-edge contemporary approaches to music education, theories and sociological thinking across a wide range of topics.
