This module May be taken by BA Media students and BSc Anthropology and BSc Anthropology with a Year Abroad. Important note: BSc Anthropology and BSc Anthropology with a Year Abroad may only take this module in Year 3/4 of their programme and must have taken ANTH0013 as a pre-requisite.

Description

This practical module applies the skills, knowledge and expertise gained in the first year both on and with digital practices and technologies in people鈥檚 everyday lives and other anthropological research settings. Students will find a small 鈥渇ield鈥 where they will undertake repeated observations of digital practices engaging with a group of at least two people. They will plan observations, analyse different aspects of the data collected and design and online platform for presenting the results. The module will foster reflexivity and creative听experimentation with anthropological modes of enquiry, analysis and representation.

NOTE: this module belongs to:

PATHWAY 1: Critical Media with Film 鈥 an emphasis on theory, but with a throughline of practical work in film-making running through Years 2 and 3. This pathway will follow the theory modules and all the practice modules in film up to advanced level.

PATHWAY 2: Critical Media with Games 鈥 an emphasis on theory, but with a throughline of practical work in game, VR/AR/XR design running through Years 2 and 3. This pathway will follow the theory modules and all the practice modules in games and interactive media up to advanced level.

PATHWAY 3: Media Practice 鈥 an emphasis on design in both Film and Games/VR/AR/XR, with options in critical theory to complement this. This pathway will follow all the practice modules in both film and games up to advanced level, along with selected theory modules.
