Description
This compulsory module provides a critical overview of key concepts, theories and developments within the interdisciplinary fields of media studies, media education, digital culture and cultural studies. The aim is to provide a foundation in concepts which will be applied and developed across the different areas throughout the programme. The module provides an introduction to key aspects of media and cultural studies including: the relationships between texts and audiences, questions of power and discourse, concepts of identity and representation, and critical approaches to immersive media, computational cultures and creativity. ÌýEach week of the module will feature a large group lecture in which key issues and theorists will be introduced. These lectures will be followed by seminars, each tailored to the three programme pathways/routes (critical studies, education, or production) in which relevant concepts will be explored in greater depth.Ìý
