Description

This employability-focused module allows students to combine their understanding of theories and methodologies taught across the programme and to apply them to careers in the digital workplace. Workshops will be led by Digital Humanities researchers and professional practitioners involved at the forefront of digital culture practices, creation or innovation.

Sessions will provide a case study focused on future innovations and current opportunities in the digital culture sector. This sector includes but is not limited to broadcasters, streaming services, galleries, libraries, museums, performing arts centres, big tech, publishing, content creation, charities, historic sites, social media, marketing, social enterprise, tourism, and education.

Each week students will work together to consider how their skills can help address real-world problems whilst maintaining an awareness of issues such as the potential environmental and ethical considerations for engagement in these fields. The module positions students as the creators, leaders and innovators of tomorrow and challenges them to develop new ideas in the areas of digital entrepreneurship, cultural heritage, media, marketing and beyond.

By the end of the module students will be able to:

  • Articulate how the skills they have developed during their degree can help the culture sector to solve real-world problems
  • Evaluate and navigate ethical issues, legal issues, stakeholder relationships, and power implications surrounding digital solutions in a range of contexts
  • Solidify transferrable writing, research, and oral communication skills and to use them appropriately to secure buy-in for positive change
  • Evaluate key contemporary debates and discussions related to working in digital humanities industries
  • Describe the ways in which digital technologies have transformed many occupations, and environmental impacts and social changes implicit in this
