Description
This design module builds directly upon the design research module in Term 1 by allowing the students who – having worked to carry out initial graphic based investigations and research – are now able to develop their own design proposals for reusing or reshaping a piece of historic architectural heritage, or else for producing a broader design strategy for an urban environment. The site for the project module will most likely be a continuation of their Term 1 research into sites located in Euston or Mayfair, or else, if agreed with the module leader, they might instead choose to translate and develop their proposal to address a building or district in another city of which they possess sufficiently in-depth knowledge.
In this sense, this module is also deeply interested in examining examples of approaches to architectural heritage in other cities around the globe. The work undertaken by the students for this module will hence form a complement to the project work they began during the previous term. The module will involve the students in learning to use emerging techniques of digital and physical design and fabrication as and when it is relevant to further their design explorations. Part of the module will include an individual verbal presentation by the student about their design project.
