Content: â¶Ä¯Ìý

This module considers what is a curriculum, who controls the curriculum and what is the relationship between the curriculum, pedagogy and assessment. In particular, the module supports students to develop an improved ability to 'read' curriculum materials, practices and policies in the light of theoretical principles and ideological perspectives that inform them; an enhanced appreciation of the cultural and philosophical roots of issues in curriculum design and development; a better understanding of design and development strategies; and a capacity for deeper reflection on their own experience of curriculum.Ìý

This module is taught in 10 weekly recorded lectures and 10 weekly face to face seminars taught by the module leader, seminar tutor and several Professorial guest speakers. Ìý

Module Aims and/ or Objectives: Ìý

Through seminars, lectures, a curriculum development project and group activities, the module aims to provide participants with new analytical and critical skills with regard to their curricular interests and responsibilities. In particular, the module aims at supporting students to:Ìý

  1. Engage critically with and evaluate published research on curriculum development and related issues and principlesÌýÌý
  1. Understand and explain the impact of various factors affecting curriculum development in light of theoretical and ideological perspectives that inform themÌý
  1. Understand a range of ways in which curriculum development can be perceived and the processes involved in conducting itÌý
  1. Apply their curriculum development knowledge and skills to real world scenarios.Ìý
