Description
This module explores a range of contemporary social theories, cutting-edge research and public debates about local and global childhoods. You will cultivate sociological understandings about the ways that social, political and economic changes produce varied, and often unequal, childhoods. The module will provide the basis for critical reflection on the social status of children and childhood in relation to generation and other dimensions, such as gender, ‘race’ and social class in light of their historically and spatially situated manifestations. It will lay the foundations for you to recognise, investigate and conceptualise children and young people’s social contributions, creative responses, and political activism in these shifting global contexts. You will hear from internationally renowned and research-active lecturers, take part in interactive seminars, and have the chance explore your own area of interest under the tutelage of expert module tutors.
