Summary
This module provides you with in-depth information on anatomy & physiology, as well as contemporary views on surgery, intervention and imaging for specific lesions seen in patients with congenital heart disease.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
Taking this module allows you to:
- Have an overview of the most common types of congenital heart disease in terms of both anatomy and physiology
- Understand the basis for treatment/potential future therapeutic approaches for patients with congenital heart disease
- Critically assess individual cases of congenital heart disease in a laboratory setting
- Conduct independent research of the literature
- Provide clear, structured written (and verbal) formative and summative presentation of their literature research findings
Who is this module for?
This is an optional module for iBSc Cardiovascular Science students, and an optional module for MSc Cardiovascular Science students. It is open to any Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê MSc/PG Dip student. Students from outside SLMS should discuss the content with the module lead prior to selection.
Teaching and Learning Methods
Congenital Heart Disease Fundamentals employs a variety of teaching methods for delivery and will be centred on object-based learning and case review using anatomic specimens as well as traditional lectures with extensive video content and a written module handbook. You will have the opportunity to review module components through access to an existing e-learning catalogue of anatomy video recordings
