Description
This is a 30-credit design module in which students are introduced to the overall design practice and ethos of the programme, while gaining an understanding of the arts and humanities background that underpins experimental and exploratory work of Bio-ID. This is done through a series of short design projects and numerous seminars and workshops with invited experts in the design field, as well as material science and biology,
leading to concepts and physical explorations that are developed individually in the first month and in groups until the interim reviews. The projects are inherently design oriented, but they are also important to engage students with new research agendas in which they learn the basics of biological/ecological thinking, growth and lab protocols, speciation, bioreceptivity concepts, environmental and water dynamics, along with material considerations.
