Description

The module builds uponÌýDevice Processing and Fabrication for Advanced Nanotechnology (level 5)’ by studying advanced topics in nanotechnology and introducing nanosystems, i.e. above nano-scale devices enabled by nanotechnology. The course, encompasses nano-electronics, quantum computing, energy and climate nanotechnology, nano-robotics, nano-toxicology; nano-biotechnology and nano-medicine; Nano-sensors and actuators.

Students will gain an understanding of the advanced applications for nanotechnology, spanning all Engineering aspects of the nanoscale as applied to a wide range of fields where nanotechnology is important or becoming important.

Key topics include:

• Nanoelectronics
• Quantum computing
• Micro and Nano- sensors and actuators
• Nanoplasmonics for sensing applications
• Nanotechnology and energy, nanocarbons for energy applications
• Nanotechnology and climate change
• Bio-nanotechnology
• Medical applications for functional nanoparticles
• Radical nanotechnology: Nano-robotics and human health, nanoscale factories, brain-nano-device interfacing
• Nano-toxicology and nano-safety
