Content: The aim of this module is to give non-psychology students an understanding of the issues, theories and methods on business psychology. The history, philosophy and methodology of this particular branch of psychology will be discussed, as well as how business psychology is applied in organisations.Ìý
Teaching delivery: This module is taught via 20 hours of in-person lectures (usually in the format of a two-hour block each week for 10 weeks).
Indicative Topics: Indicative topics – based on module content in 2023/24, subject to possible changes: Introduction and Course Overview, Human Potential: Personality, Human Potential: Cognitive Ability, Measuring Potential, Leadership, Training and Development, Entrepreneurial Talent, Employee Motivation, Influence and Negotiation, Consumer Psychology and Behaviour.
Module Aims: Students are expected to develop knowledge and understanding of:
- The psychology of individual differences
- Theories and methods of personnel selection and staffing
- The validity of psychometric testing methods
- Training and development techniques (theory and practice)
- Future directions for psychological applications in the area of talent
- The psychology of social influence and negotiation
- Motivation of employees
- Leadership
