- Those in Year 3 or 4 on the following programmes: BSc/MSci Psychology, IBSc Psychology, BSc/MSci PALS, BASc, Human Sciences, Natural Sciences, Security and Crime Science
- Students on these specified programmes: MSc Psychological Sciences, MSc Social Cognition, MScs related to Psychology
- Affiliate students - those from outside Psychology are expected to have some background in Psychology (and provide details of this on the Psychology Online Module Request Form which will be available at /pals/elective-psychology-modules).

There are no alternative credit options available for this module.
Content: The module addresses contemporary theorising and research in social psychology. Some but not all of the lectures will have an emphasis on neuroscience approaches to social psychology, especially interactions between social context, the brain, and neuromodulators such as hormones to explain social cognition and behaviour.
Teaching delivery: This module is taught in 15 hours of in-person lectures spread over 10 teaching weeks (usually in the format of 5 2-hour sessions in one half of term and 5 1-hour lectures in the other half of term).
Indicative Topics: Indicative lecture topics – based on module content in 2023/24, subject to possible changes: Overview and Introduction, Stress, Hormones, & Social Hierarchy, Aggression and Dominance, Emotion in the Face & Voice, Teamwork and Collaboration, Altruism & Prosocial Behaviour, Inequality & Values, Close Relationships, Imitation and Mimicry, Moral Psychology of Punishment, Social Influence, Persuasion, & Behaviour Change and Assessment Preparation Q & A.
Module Aims: This module aims to achieve the following objectives:
- To provide students with an understanding of social determinants of judgment and behaviour; and the interplay between social processes and individual processes.
- To familiarise students with basic methods used in social psychology.
- To help students critically discuss research in social psychology, and establish connections between social phenomena and other areas of human functioning, such as cognition, neuroscience, and health.
