Rev. John Anderson
Profile & Legacies Summary
1759 - 1839
Biography
Scottish clergyman, trustee of John Shand (q.v.) and surety for Kenneth McPherson of Jamaica. He was probably related to both men, given that his mother's name was Helen Shand and his second wife's Elizabeth McPherson.
- Will of Rev. John Anderson of Fochabers, Moray [made in 1839] proved in London 23/04/1855. In the will he said that he had made large gifts to his family and friends in his lifetime, and accordingly left his property in trust for his wife Mrs Elizabeth McPherson. He said that he had paid a large sum to Sir William Forbes & Co. of Edinburgh as surety for Kenneth McPherson of Jamaica, and urged his trustees to recover the debt or abandon it if there was no hope of realising it given 'the aspect of West Indian concerns'. One of his executors was John Batty Shand WS, the natural son of John Shand (q.v.).
