The New Canaan estate was the subject of the 1791 marriage settlement of George William Ricketts then of Bishops Sutton, and Laetitia Mildmay of Shawford House, both in the county of Southampton. Neither the Beckfords nor Hinchley appear in that deed as trustees, but in the papers of the Godwin Austen family of Shalford is a deed concerning the appointment of Francis Love Beckford senior and junior, and Richard Hinckley [sic] as new trustees in place of Charles Nicholas Pallmer in 1829.
