This year's Presidential Address was delivered by Lord Reed, Deputy President of The Supreme Court.

Lord Reed delivers the Presidential Address

On Wednesday 6th March 2019, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Laws opened its doors to Bentham House to welcome Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Laws and Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê alumni working in law for the annual Bentham Association Presidential Address and Dinner.

Lord Reed, Deputy President of The Supreme Court, delivered the 71st Presidential Address on ‘’. Lord Reed addressed the impact of the Supreme Court over the past 10 years; and howÌýcreation of the Supreme Court has led to a significant change both in the UK and overseas in the image of British justice.Ìý

Robert John Reed, Lord Reed became Deputy President of The Supreme Court on 7 June 2018. He was appointed as a Justice of The Supreme Court in February 2012. As well as sitting on the Supreme Court and the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, he is also a member of the panel of ad hoc judges of the European Court of Human Rights, and is a Non-Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal in Hong Kong. He is also the Visitor of Balliol College, Oxford. Lord Reed is one of the two Scottish Justices of The Supreme Court.

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Laws alumni and Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê alumni now working in the legal profession have been meeting annually for the Bentham Association Presidential Address and Dinner since 1949. The evening includes a drinks reception, the Presidential Address, and dinner, and is a highlight in the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Laws events calendar - providing an excellent opportunity for alumni catch up with their former classmates and friends.
