Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Laws students compete in the European Universities Debating Championship (EUDC)

Two teams of students from Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Laws, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Political Science and Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê SSEES competed in the major debating competition which took place in Athens this month.

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê students compete in EUDC 2019

Two teams of students from Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê have successfully competed in this year’s European Universities Debating Championship (EUDC). The EUDC is the largest debating competition in Europe, and 212 teams from over 25 countries were invited to take part.

The Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê A team reached the quarter-finals of the competition, earning their place among the top 16 teams in Europe. They are the first Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê team in over a decade to reach the quarter-finals, and eliminated teams from the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge along the way. The team was made up of Wei Sheng Neo, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Laws LLB student; and Francesca Reynolds, who is studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Political Science.

The Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê B team competed in the preliminary rounds, and ranked 73rd out of 212 at the end of the competition. The team consisted of Radu Suciu, currently a LLB student at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Laws; and Ioana Maxineanu, a student at the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê School of Slavonic and East European Studies.

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Laws provided funding for LLB students Wei Sheng and Radu to enable them to attend the competition, and would like to extend our congratulations to all students who took part and represented Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê so well.
