Four PhD students from the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Faculty of Laws have been successful in achieving academic positions in the UK and overseas

ÌýMr Joe Atkinson has been appointed Lecturer in Law at theÌýUniversity of Sheffield, starting in January 2019. Mr AtkinsonÌýis in the third year of his PhD.ÌýHis thesis covers philosophicalÌýandÌýÌýlegalÌýaspects of the relationship between human rights and labour law; examining the legitimacy of justifying labour law through human rights based arguments, and the implications of adopting a human rights perspective on labour law.ÌýHeÌýis supervised by ÌýandÌýProfessor George Letsas.Ìý

Ìý hasÌýbeen appointedÌýAssistant Professor in Public Law and Human Rights at Durham Law School as of 1st August, having previously worked as a lecturer at the University of Westminster, a post that she got before completing her PhD.ÌýHer thesis was about theÌýapplication of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights to disputes between private parties. Her first book, entitled is forthcoming publication with OUP in 2019. Dr Frantziou was supervised by Professor Piet Eeckhout andÌý.

Ìý has been appointedÌýAssistant Professor in International Law at the University of Maastricht from August 2018. Her PhD developed a theory of extraterritoriality in the area of international human rights law. An article based on these ideasÌý was recently published in the Leiden Journal of International Law as ''. Currently an Early Career Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, Dr Raible will be joining Maastricht’s Department of International and European Law, where she will teach and research in international law and human rights. Her thesis was supervised byÌýProfessor Colm O’Cinneide and .

Ìý has been appointedÌýfull-time visiting professor at the Law Department of the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México from January 2019. He is in the third year of his PhD, which is about the adjudication of beliefs appearing in claims concerning the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion. His supervisors are Dr Ronan McCrea and Professor George Letsas.
