17 March 2021

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Sarunic to this new role created in partnership with Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Department of Medical Physics & Biomedical Engineering.

Prof Sarunic

The role will provide a direct link between Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê’s Faculties of Brain and Engineering Sciences and Moorfields Eye Hospital, via the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Institute of Healthcare Engineering (IHE).

We are very grateful to Moorfields Eye Charity for their generous support investing in this new collaborative research network. This is part of a strategic initiative to boost excellence in multidisciplinary research and innovation in healthcare engineering applied to ophthalmology at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê.

Prof Marinko Sarunic will join Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê from 1 September 2021 from Simon Fraser University where he is currently Professor and Associate Director at the School of Engineering Science.

Prof Sarunic brings extensive experience in the development of new ophthalmic instrumentation and techniques. He will deliver on aspirations for imaging of the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Institute of Ophthalmology.

On his new appointment Prof Sarunic said:

“Bridging physics and engineering with clinical science in the heart of London, the combined strengths of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê and Moorfields Eye Hospital are uniquely positioned to impact ocular imaging research. I am excited to join the team at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê and grow my research through new collaborations at Moorfields Eye Hospital to help in the fight against vision robbing diseases.

“I’m delighted to welcome Professor Sarunic to Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê, and to the Department of Medical Physics & Bioengineering. This role marks an important development in the way we work, to bring our strengths in healthcare engineering into practice and build closer bonds with healthcare professionals. Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê believes that in working across disciplines and working closely with practitioners, we can make a tangible difference to patients’ outcomes and a valuable contribution to human wellbeing. I’d like to extend my warmest wishes to Professor Sarunic and I look forward to learning more about his plans as Chair.
