The course, designed and led by Dr Frances Hunt and Dr Nicole Blum and hosted on FutureLearn, aims to help teachers develop greater knowledge, confidence and skills to incorporate global education into their teaching. It draws on knowledge and expertise from 15 years of research on global education, development education, global citizenship education and education for sustainable development conducted by the IOE鈥檚 Development Education Research Centre.

It supports teachers to identify key elements of global education and explore related approaches to teaching and pedagogy. It also provides practical ideas and support for teachers who want to introduce global education into their practice, including lesson planning, guides, resources and further readings.

was developed in line with UN Sustainable Development Goal 4.7, which requires countries to develop global citizenship for all learners by 2030. The free online course requires three hours of study over three weeks and is designed for teachers around the world with an interest in global learning and global citizenship education.

Dr Blum said: 鈥淭hrough our research and previous work with teachers around the world, we were keenly aware that many teachers do not have access to continuing professional development in global education and related areas, but that they needed tools and approaches to support their students to face the challenges of a globalising world. We created the course to try to help fill that need and also to provide opportunities for teachers around the world to learn together and share their diverse experiences and expertise.鈥�
