Across the globe everyone talks about quality in initial teacher education (ITE) without really saying what they mean.
Drawing on her research examining large scale, university-based ITE providers in Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand and USA, Professor Brooks will address the following questions:
- What do we mean when we talk about quality in initial teacher education?
- Why do some initiatives that are meant to make teacher education better actually make it worse? (Quality Conundrums)
- How do teacher educators deal with issues around practice, partnership, research, accountability, and knowledge in different countries?
- In what ways are university-based teacher educators’ work configured and rewarded?
- How can understanding teacher education as a spatial activity and a spatial practice help us to improve teacher education in the future?
Professor Brooks will share her research findings alongside a framework to help teacher educators think about their practice and how to address future quality conundrums.
