PAINLESS summer school a success

Last month the PAINLESS European Training Network (ETN) of which Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê is a leading partner joined forces with the WINDMILL ETN to successfully deliver their 2021 summer school

Last month the PAINLESS European Training Network (ETN), of which Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê is a leading partner, joined forces with the WINDMILL ETN to successfully deliver their 2021 summer school.

PAINLESS and WindMillÌýare two multi-partnerÌýETNÌýprojects, funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.

The two networks provide European wide training and research platforms exploring the topics of energy-autonomous portable network nodes, and machine learning for wireless networks respectively.

The PAINLESS and WindMill 2021 Summer school wasÌýa two-dayÌýonline school open to all interested PhD students and researchers. The first dayÌýfocused on technical content in the areas of drone communications, machine learning for wireless networks and energy aspects, with day 2 consistingÌýof a half-day workshop on the topic of entrepreneurship.

Xiaoye Jing, Doctoral student within the PAINLESS ETN said:

"I found it extremely beneficial to hear presentations from other early stage researchers such as me. It helped meÌýunderstand others’ research progress and find potential collaborations across researchers, along with leaning different approaches to the technical problems I face in my research.

PAINLESS was launched in 2018 coordinated by Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê and led by Christos Massouros, ICCS member and Professor of Signal Processing and Wireless Communications in the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Department of Electronic and ElectricalÌýEngineering. The Project hasÌýthe visionary aim to establish a training and research platform to pioneer green, energy-autonomous portable network nodes which are self-subsistent andÌýlimitlessly-scalable, to satisfy future demands with minimal infrastructure.

Through training alongside research, the networks aimÌýtoÌýproduce the first generation of experts in a radically new wave of energy-autonomous networks that will revolutionise the wireless networking technology landscape and the plethora of associated vertical business sectors.
