Academic Tips

"Decide on a notetaking system and stick with it! For me, I am not good at keeping up with lots of pieces of paper so I prefer an online option and use Microsoft OneNote.

"But don’t worry if you don’t have a Microsoft Licence, as you can to use whilst you’re at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê.

"It’s also a good idea to consider how you’re going to store your references before coursework gets underway.

"I couldn’t live (metaphorically speaking!) without using reference management software, and it has saved hours of work and stress!

Campus Life

"There is lots to get involved in at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê outside of your course (much more than is possible)! A good starting point is to look at .

"If you’re like me and don’t drink alcohol or are worried about not knowing people, be assured that they also have alcohol-free events and speed-friending sessions.

"If you like playing sports or having hobbies, consider joining a , but be aware there is a lot to choose from!

"I would recommend trying out one or two things to make sure that you don’t overload yourself or be too ambitious.

"Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê’s Student Union also have which represent particular groups of students, such as or . These are free to join and a great space to meet similar students.

"If you are shy or feel nervous about going to events without knowing people, try and ask another student on your course if they would like to go for a coffee after a lecture or meet for lunch.

"The chances are they will say yes! This was a good way for me to make friends last year."

"I wish that I had been braver when speaking with academics and in class. I was worried about people thinking I was stupid but actually, we are all there to learn.

"I found that all the tutors were keen to hear our thoughts even if they weren’t fully formed, as this is part of the learning process.

"Remember that the tutors all have availability to discuss your questions and thoughts about content and assignments, so make sure you take the opportunity to speak with them.
