Enhancing Marine protection in Brazil

Applying Peter Jones鈥檚 research
The听rationale and findings of Dr Peter Jones鈥檚听Marine Protected Area Governance (MPAG)听project were the basis of his opening presentation on 11 April at a workshop,听Towards Brazil鈥檚 National听Target 11, organised in Recife, Pernambuco, by Brazil鈥檚 Ministry of the Environment and听UN Environment.
The meeting was part of a Brazilian initiative to develop a new policy White Paper,听Options for enhancing management of marine protected areas and other effective area-based conservation measures, in collaboration with the UN Environment-World Conservation Monitoring Centre, Cambridge.
Peter鈥檚 presentation included recommendations for the new national MPA strategy. In the coming months, he will continue to have听input in the drafting of the White Paper.
