Groundwater as an essential resource in the tropics

Richard Taylor’s contribution to World Water Day

Groundwater as an essential resource in the tropics

Sunday March 22nd was not only Mother's Day but also World Water Day, with this year's theme of Water and Climate Change.

Professor Richard Taylor was commissioned by Nature Research Sustainability to mark the event by contributing a post to its blog channel's discussion.

The post (below) offers a short commentary looking back at a strategic review paper he published in 2013 with 25 co-authors in Nature Climate ChangeÌý´Ç²ÔÌýGroundwater and Climate Change.

Richard explains the natural resilience of groundwater to climate change, especially in the tropics. There is thus an urgent need to sustain groundwater as an essential resource in low-income tropical countries to support their future adaptation to climate change and support human development.
