Disclosing and managing conflicts of interest at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê

This course will help you recognise, disclose and manage conflicts of interest in your day-to-day role at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê.

What are conflicts of interests?

Broadly speaking, a conflict of interest is where your personal interests, relationships or duties to others compete (or could be seen to compete) with your obligations to Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê.

A conflict of interest doesn’t imply improper conduct or a lack of integrity. However, it’s essential that conflicts of interest are recognised, clarified and managed (where appropriate) to prevent damage to your reputation or to Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê as an institution.


Who this training is for

All staff and doctoral students must complete this training course.

This includes anyone working at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê, including honorary staff, emeritus staff, visiting staff, and the staff and directors of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê’s subsidiary companies.

It also includes contractors and consultants, where conflicts have not already been appropriately managed through their own conflict management processes.


What this course covers

This training covers:

  • what a conflict of interest is and how to recognise one
  • who Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê’s policy applies to, and related responsibilities 
  • what to do in the event of a conflict of interest
  • what to do if an undisclosed conflict of interest is discovered
  • how to manage conflicts of interest 
  • how to make an annual declaration of external interests (senior staff only)
