Overview

Through interactive activities and discussions, you’ll gain practical strategies to address bias and embed inclusivity into projects such as:

• developing an idea for a startup
• running a business or social enterprise
• developing an innovative idea within an organisation

This training is being delivered by King’s Entrepreneurship Institute and Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Diverse Founder’s Network (DFN).

Why equity-centred design?

Equity is fairness or justice in the way people are treated.

Design thinking is a process to understand users, challenge assumptions, redefine problems and create innovative solutions to prototype and test.

Today’s challenges - like environmental degradation and educational inequities - demand solutions that go beyond technological fixes. They require us to rethink and reinvent systems.

In this context, design thinking offers a framework to humanise and simplify the chaos of problem-solving. However, to truly harness its potential for equity, we must redesign the process of design thinking itself to mitigate biasesÌý- both explicit and implicit - that can perpetuate inequality.

Who it’s for

This workshop is open to all who are:

• interested in entrepreneurship
• curious how to find a more equitable and inclusive solution to a problem they want to solve
• want to learn more about design thinking

What to expect

The morning session will begin with a welcome and introduction, followed by discussions on understanding equity in design and identifying biases.

The midday portion will focus on empathy mapping and stakeholder analysis, with a break for lunch.

In the afternoon, you’ll engage in co-creation and ideation activities, and prototyping with equity in mind.

The day will conclude with a reflection and action planning session.

Lunch will be provided.

About the tutor

AmickyCarol Akiwumi MBE is an accomplishedÌýentrepreneur, consultant, trainer, and inspirational speaker, dedicated to the principles of stewardship and justice. She holds an MA in Economics and Finance from the University of Leeds and began her professional journey in the financial services sector.

As the Founder and CEO of The AVOCADO Foundation, she leads a global organisation that delivers comprehensive financial education, entrepreneurship training, and capacity-building initiatives worldwide.
