Five questions with Ricky Adams

Ricky Adams has joined EEE as a Senior IT Systems Administrator within the IT Support team. We asked Ricky a few questions to get to know him better.

Tell us a little bit about your backgroundÌý

±õ’v±ð been providing IT Support atÌýÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê since 2013,ÌýIÌýwas previously based atÌýtheÌýSchool of Pharmacy andÌýmost recently Medical Sciences. I also didÌýplacements at BioÌýScience andÌýTheÌýEar Institute.Ìý

What do you like about working in HigherÌýEducation?ÌýÌý

I enjoy working in an academic environmentÌýandÌýmeetingÌýaÌýdiverse array of people. Each building I have covered is very different andÌýit’s interesting to discover and learnÌýabout theÌýhistory andÌýthoseÌýthat have been and gone and left their legacyÌýbehind.Ìý

It givesÌýme satisfaction knowing the ITÌýsupport/Ìýadvice I have given a student or staff member has enabled themÌýto carry out theirÌýwork orÌýresearchÌýmore efficiently and increase their productivity.Ìý

What’s the coolest thing you’re working on right now?ÌýÌý

±õ’v±ðÌýstartedÌýlearning Python in my spareÌýtime, IÌýhope to be able to put this into use eventually within my role to create scripts and automate tasks.Ìý

Who inspires you?Ìý

People that have left their mark in the world and made a difference through their individuality and for thinking outside of the box.Ìýe.g.ÌýMichael Jackson, LinusÌýTorvalds, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs to name a few.Ìý

Tell us something interesting about yourself

I recently moved toÌýMilton Keynes;ÌýIÌýlikeÌýthe calmness and the cut off from London,Ìýthere are lots of lakes and fields to enjoy.Ìý±õ’mÌýstill gettingÌýmy head aroundÌýall the roundabouts andÌýgrid system!ÌýIÌýbought anÌýescooterÌýthatÌýI ride toÌýand from the station,Ìýwhich makes the commutes even more fun!
