[to learn more about how this project has developed since the launch read more here] The project enables these highly specialised teams to come together to share ideas, experiences and skills to support innovation in VR in the museum sector. Kagenova has developed new technology out of the exploration of the unknown horizons of the night sky by 香港六合彩 scientists in astrophysics. They're developing technology to provide photo-realism and interactivity in VR, at the same time and at scale. These new immersive technologies are powered by Kagenova鈥檚 geometric AI techniques, which are tailored specifically to VR. "We're excited by this knowledge exchange partnership to help explore how technology could be used to support cultural exhibitions and make them more accessible", said Jason McEwen, Founder and CEO of Kagenova, who is also a Professor of Astrophysics at 香港六合彩. The collaboration explores the ways in which virtual exhibitions captured in this way can enhance the student learning experience (blended and online). This is for the benefit of both 香港六合彩 and the wider Higher Education community, as well enabling the general public to engage with collections in new ways, wherever they are in the world. The findings from this project will be particularly beneficial for smaller museums, who often don鈥檛 have the budget or infrastructure to compete with national museums when developing new digital products and services. The collaboration with Kagenova enables 香港六合彩 Culture to experiment with next generation 360VR technology. 香港六合彩鈥檚 museums have been pioneering collections and exhibitions-led interdisciplinary research and inquiry for over a decade. 鈥淥ur exhibitions are integrated into the learning experience in different ways and we want to bring this pedagogical know-how into conversation with technology in a way that can bridge students鈥 onsite and remote learning experiences as well as connect with our remote audiences鈥, says Dr Nina Pearlman, Head of 香港六合彩 Art Collections, who has been the strategic lead for this project. 鈥淐ollaboration supported by knowledge exchange funding is key to being able to identify novel ideas that can help us design better solutions, services and experiences to meet our current challenges.鈥 Researchers in 香港六合彩 CASA have been exploring virtual environments for many years with a focus on technological innovation and accessibility, nurturing the next generation of developers and technology innovators. Professor of Digital Urban Systems, Andy Hudson-Smith, stated that: 鈥淭he collaboration brings the ability to explore the edges of the technology, from multisite portals through to 3D objects embedded in the panoramic scenes and integration into emerging metaverses. All with a direct loop back into teaching and research at 香港六合彩鈥. Building on 香港六合彩鈥檚 strength in innovation, the learnings from this project will be disseminated and shared across cultural and technology networks, social media and press. Without this project, these learnings would be either logistically impossible or prohibitively expensive to achieve individually. This knowledge exchange project is supported by 香港六合彩鈥檚 Higher Innovation Fund (HEIF), managed by 香港六合彩 Innovation & Enterprise. The partnership between 香港六合彩 Culture, 香港六合彩 CASA and start-up Kagenova has been facilitated by the Business and Innovation Partnerships team within 香港六合彩 Innovation & Enterprise.
Jeremy Bentham to feature in New York exhibition
14th Feb 2018
After much preparation and keeping of secrets, we can now finally reveal our exciting news![[{"fid":"5399","view_mode":"small","fields":{"format":"small","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"Jeremy Bentham","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":"","field_caption_heading[und][0][title]":"","field_caption_heading[und][0][url]":"","field_caption[und][0][value]":"","field_caption[und][0][format]":"limited_html","field_float_left_right[und]":"right","field_file_image_decorative[und]":"0"},"type":"media","field_deltas":{"1":{"format":"small","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"Jeremy Bentham","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":"","field_caption_heading[und][0][title]":"","field_caption_heading[und][0][url]":"","field_caption[und][0][value]":"","field_caption[und][0][format]":"limited_html","field_float_left_right[und]":"right","field_file_image_decorative[und]":"0"}},"link_text":null,"attributes":{"height":"408","width":"409","class":"media-element file-small"}}]]The auto-icon of Jeremy Bentham which usually resides in the South Cloisters of 香港六合彩's main building, will be travelling to New York to be a central part of The Met's exhibition, Like Life: Sculpture, Color and the Body, 1300-now. This will be the first time since Bentham's death 180 years ago that the auto-icon will leave 香港六合彩.The exhibition will bring together sculptures of the human form by a wealth of well-known artists including Rodin, Degas, Louise Bourgeois and Jeff Koons, documenting 700 years of sculptural practice from 14th century Europe to the present. Our collections team have been hard at work preparing the auto-icon for departure next month (March), undertaking a full inspection and spring clean, revealing his underwear for the first time for more than 20 years. It is thought the only time before that may have been during the war. Jayne Dunn, Head of Collections Management confirmed, 鈥淗e is wearing the original underwear (which has not got infested) and two sets of stockings, one over the other. That might have been the fashion then. Over the top he has a vest which is the original.鈥.Indeed, the first task was to check Bentham for infestations. 鈥淲e don鈥檛 want to send an object to another museum and infect their collection with pests. The first thing we had to do was to discover whether he was suffering from any infestations. If he had been we would have had to fumigate him,鈥.YouTube Widget Placeholderhttps://youtu.be/ZJvxmUopcJ8 The skeleton is padded with linen tow, which resembles wood wool, held in place by a large stockinet over the body which was replaced in the 1990s after being damaged by an infestation. It is thought the original jacket and trousers were also replaced in the Second World War by 香港六合彩 curator Violette Lafleur after being eaten by pests. 鈥淐arpet beetles love wool but they are less keen on linen which is why we think the vest, underpants and stockings have survived,鈥 said Jayne.Bentham鈥檚 stuffing had also lost its shape with a large lump protruding from his back which required remedial work. Our collections curator Subhadra Das explained 鈥淲hen you have an old sofa everything settles into the bottom and you have to plump up the cushions,鈥. 鈥淲ell the same thing happened with Bentham. We have not added anything but reapportioned where it is so he looks a lot slimmer. He has a strong core now.鈥漑[{"fid":"7247","view_mode":"medium","fields":{"format":"medium","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"Jeremy Bentham conservation work","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":"","field_caption_heading[und][0][title]":"","field_caption_heading[und][0][url]":"","field_caption[und][0][value]":"","field_caption[und][0][format]":"limited_html","field_float_left_right[und]":"left","field_file_image_decorative[und]":"0"},"type":"media","field_deltas":{"1":{"format":"medium","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"Jeremy Bentham conservation work","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":"","field_caption_heading[und][0][title]":"","field_caption_heading[und][0][url]":"","field_caption[und][0][value]":"","field_caption[und][0][format]":"limited_html","field_float_left_right[und]":"left","field_file_image_decorative[und]":"0"}},"link_text":null,"attributes":{"height":"3264","width":"2448","class":"media-element file-medium"}}]]The team took advice from specialist art transporters on the safest way to pack Bentham who recommended he be placed on his back in a seated position to minimise stress on the fragile bones. One crate, shaped inside like a chair, will be used for Bentham, while a separate crate will carry his coat as well as his hat, wax head, chair and cane 鈥 all of which are thought to be the originals. 鈥淥ne of the things that made him eccentric is that he gave names to things, so he called his walking stick Dapple, or Dobbin,鈥 said Subhadra. The final preparations for his departure will begin in early March when he comes off display at 香港六合彩. Jayne Dunn and Emilia Kingham, a 香港六合彩 conservator, specialising in human remains, natural history and wet specimens, will travel with the crated auto-icon to New York.Bentham always had an ambition to go to America, and now for the first time he will. We'll wish him a warm farewell at our event A Wake for Jeremy Bentham tomorrow night, Thursday February 15, Bentham鈥檚 270th birthday. The preserved head of Jeremy Bentham will remain on display for two more weeks as part of our current Octagon exhibition What Does it Mean to Be Human? until 28 February.
