IOE & SLASH Team

The IOE & SLASH team supports the career development of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê students from the IOE, Arts & Humanities, Social & Historical Sciences, and Laws.

Meet the IOE & SLASH team

Robert Donovan, Deputy Head

Robert is Deputy Head with responsibility for Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Careers provision to departments in SLASH and the IOE.

Prior to joining Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê, he worked in a range of project manager roles in a number of private and public sector organisations, including Unilever and several higher education institutions in London.

Stephen Gurman, Careers Consultant

Stephen is embedded with the Faculty of Laws and runs appointments and workshops for students registered to the LLB and LLM programmes. Stephen also has an interest in matters relating to international students and their job search in the UK.  

Hilary Moor, Careers Consultant

Hilary is the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Careers Consultant for Political Science, SSEES, Institute of the Americas, Archaeology and Hebrew & Jewish Studies, providing individual careers appointments, events and workshops to students.  Her core Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Careers activities include working as a part of the Careers Extra team. 

Prior to moving into Careers work in Higher Education, Hilary worked in publishing and recruitment in London and New York. 

Julie P. Smith, Careers Consultant

Julie is a Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Careers Consultant, supporting across three faculties and seven departments: Arts and Sciences, Greek and Latin, Information Studies, Philosophy, Archaeology, and the IOE's Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment (PGT only), and Social Research Institute. 

Prior to joining Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê, Julie worked as a Careers Adviser in both independent and mainstream education, supporting a wide range of secondary schools, sixth forms, and alternative provision organisations across Greater London to deliver careers education and guidance to young people. She is also a qualified teacher of Secondary English, and has sixteen years' experience of classroom teaching.

Alyssa Hickson, Careers Consultant

Alyssa is the Careers Consultant assigned to the departments of English; Geography; Economics; Hebrew and Jewish Studies; Psychology and Human Development; Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment; and Initial Teacher Education.

Having come to Higher Education via a career as a secondary school modern languages teacher, Alyssa now enjoys delivering 1:1 careers guidance, workshops and alumni events, both centrally and within her departments. A keen listener and helper, she enjoys working collaboratively with students to explore their options and personal values, in order to plan and enjoy whichever route they take after graduation.

Molly O'Doherty, Careers Consultant

Molly is a Careers Consultant, supporting students and graduates on their career journeys through individual guidance, workshops and events.

She is the careers contact for the departments of History; History of Art; the Slade School of Fine Art; Culture, Communication and Media (BA); European and International Social and Political Studies; Education, Practice and Society; and the School of European Languages, Culture and Society – Centre for Multidisciplinary and Intercultural Inquiry. 

Before joining Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê, Molly coordinated young people from different countries on volunteering programmes, supporting them with skills development and navigating their career pathways. She has experience of working in charities; Museums, Archives and Heritage; and is a trained English as a Foreign Language Teacher.Â
