Dr Tristan Smith gives evidence to UK Parliament net zero shipping inquiry

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Energy Institute researcher Dr Tristan Smith gave evidence to the Environmental Audit Committee to inform their inquiry.

The Environmental Audit Committee (EAC) launched theÌýNet Zero Aviation and Shipping inquiry in July 2021 toÌýlook at how the aviation and shipping sectors can best achieve net zero emissions.

The EAC held an evidence session inviting Dr Tristan Smith,ÌýReader in Energy and Shipping at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Energy Institute and Director of UMAS, along with representatives from the shipping industry.

Dr Tristan Smith highlighted missed opportunities in the most recent government publicationsÌýregarding decarbonisation of shipping, and laid out steps that need to be prioritised within the next decade to ensure rapid transition is possible to reach global shipping emissions targets in 2050.

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Energy Institute academics Domagoj Baresic, Nishatabbas Rehmatulla, Santiago de la Fuente and Tristan Smith also presented written evidence to the committee on behalf of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Energy Institute, UMAS, Decarbonising UK Freight Transport (DUKFT) Network and Centre for Research into Energy Demand Solutions (CREDS).
