Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Energy Institute's Islands Laboratory are looking for a Research Fellow in Environmental Law and Sustainability.

This is an opportunity to join Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê-Energy’s research staff as a core member of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Islands Laboratory. In particular this individual would further deepen our expertise in the field of law, environment and sustainability with a particular emphasis on developing new qualitative methods applicable to multi-disciplinary research (disasters risk reduction and resilience for sustainable development, islands and SDGs, stakeholders’ engagement research) and contributing to other research when necessary.

The role involves working as part of the Islands Research Lab at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê and contributing to the expansion of the Lab research portfolio, to the research findings and publications. The post holder willÌýliaise, contribute and collaborate as needed, contribute to national and international grant applications, to scientific paper publications, collaborate with Islands Lab’s partners, work in close collaboration with partners of a diverse, multi-disciplinary research consortium and industrial partners from four continents and nine countries.

The post holder will contribute to the expansion of the Lab research portfolio and to scientific paper publications, and when necessary to grant applications.

The post has funding for 18 months in the first instance, further funding to support the post may be available.

AboutÌýÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Islands Laboratory

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Islands Lab explores new concepts and research on disasters risk reduction and resilience, climate change, circular economy, low carbon technologies and markets, business models and policy analysis. Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Islands Lab expertise lies on dynamic models for energy systems, resource nexus, survey design and innovative data collection techniques, big data handling and visualization, business models, market models, environmental law and policies.

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Islands Laboratory is carrying out interdisciplinary research in governance of disasters risk reduction and resilience, resource nexus and allocation, climate change, often in collaboration with industry, governmental and international partners. Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê Islands Laboratory is active in several international research projects funded by the UKRI under the Belmont forum programme and BEIS under the UK-Canada fund scheme.

Key Requirements

Our ideal candidate will have a Postgraduate degree (in law, sustainability and environmental justice, international law and related fields) and a PhD (or be close to completion) in law, sustainability, resource nexus, stakeholders’ techniques and related fields, or commensurate research or experience in law firms or other organisationsÌý

Candidates should have experience in more than one of the following: stakeholderÌýengagement, survey design, interviews, metrics, elicitation methods. Experience in policy delphi is desirable.
