The Bartlett Doctoral Informality Network publishes new book

Prof. Colin Marx from The Bartlett Development Planning Unit (DPU) has co-edited the book 'Urban informality and the built environment'.

StemmingÌýfrom a 2016 initiative within The Bartlett, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê'sÌýFaculty of Built EnvironmentÌýdesigned to provide seed funds to fosterÌýinterdisciplinary collaboration among doctoral students, thisÌýbook presents different case studies from multiple geographies, drawing attention to the need for studying urban informality in the Global North and Global South. Ìý

Through The Bartlett Faculty'sÌýinitiative, The Bartlett Doctoral Informality Network convened an international workshop inviting three established scholars from around the world to engage with doctoral students from across the Faculty. Dr Nikhilesh Sinha (DPU) with Dr Nerea Amorós-Elorduy (The Bartlett School of Architecture)Ìýwho were doctoral students at the time took on the process of editing a collection and invited Prof. Colin MarxÌýto join them.Ìý

Published as part of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê'sÌýFringe Series, the book ''Ìýdemonstrates the value of greater and more diverse forms of engagement of built environment disciplines in what constitutes urban informality and its politics. It brings a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of informality and the built environment in diverse contexts, drawing on recent research by architects, planners, political scientists, geographers and urban theorists.
