These patients are at very high risk of irreversible Vertebral Compression (spinal) and sternum fractures. Research shows surgical correction is not advisable for these patients. Spinal bracing is a traditional method of non-invasively (Orthotically) stabilising and/or correcting the shape of the spine. At the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust (RNOH) we have maintained and continue to refine and adapt these Orthotic skills to treat diverse medical conditions. The lack of an objective evidence base inhibits clinicians from making informed judgments on CTLSO design and further development. There is no evidence base regarding efficacy of our innovation compared to alternative bracing techniques. Once established, this would form the basis for implementation of regional satellite services. Without these, patient access to time-sensitive, convenient and efficacious treatment pathways are severely hampered, negatively affecting their outcome. Our primary motivation is to improve patient access to our treatment pathway by increasing the geographical spread of Myeloma treatment centres while maintaining treatment standards. Understanding the effects of our own spinal brace design, which is measured, manufactured and fitted by our in-house service restricts spinal motion will provide a generalisable standard to measure brace performance. Secondly, brace design and modification are based on professional judgement alone and without a good understanding of the levels of restriction prevailing in the 'baseline' condition. Outputs: Learn about the clinical problem at hand and work alongside the team to better understand the needs of the patients in order to help and design and modify spinal brace. You will work alongside the clinical team, surgeons and Senior Orthotists who are involved with this project. You will learn about brace design and manufacturing. Clinical Observation Opportunity (e.g. attending operating theatres, outpatients to learn about the clinical problems linked to the project): You will have an opportunity to observe in outpatients clinics (with patient consent), and also in the operating theatres as well as in the orthotics department. !01IJKYZ S T | d e 񿲨񓞆yk`kht}5OJQJ^JhFs?hm5OJQJ^JhFs?ht}OJQJ^JhahFs?OJQJ^JhFs?5OJQJ^JhFs?OJQJ^Jht}OJQJ^JhFs?hFs?OJQJ^JhFs?hFs?5OJQJ^JhFs?hG5OJQJ^JhG5OJQJ^JhP<5OJQJ^JhFs?ht}5OJQJ^J!!"JK T ~ e 6 $dha$gdFs?$a$gdt}$a$gdt}56hFs?OJQJ^JhFs?5OJQJ^JhFs?hm5OJQJ^JhFs?hmOJQJ^J,1h.
