RESEARCH INTERESTS
Helen's principal area of interest is childhood obesity and children's eating habits. Currently she is project managing a trial evaluating a childhood
obesity intervention (this work is being done in collaboration with Great Ormond Street Hospital) and working on a project evaluating the impact of the
home environment on children's eating behaviours. Previously she has worked on a study evaluating the impact of weighing children in schools and providing
feedback to parents and a project examining health-related behaviours and beliefs in Somali population in London. She was part of the clinical guidance
group for the NICE obesity guidelines. She also works with the team at the charity Weight Concern on a variety of projects relating to the practical
management of child and adult obesity; including the development and evaluation of interventions, developing resources and training health professionals.
BIOGRAPHICAL DETAILS
Helen qualified as a dietitian from the University of Surrey with a BSc in Nutrition and Dietetics in 1998. She worked as a clinical dietitian at Kingston
Hospital until she joined the Health Behaviour Unit in 2000.
